Christmas Drive

It’s that time of year again! High Point University’s annual Christmas Drive opens to the public for free on Monday, December 18.

  • What: The university invites the public to drive through its campus, which has been decked out with holiday decorations, including:

    • 100,000 holiday lights

    • 200+ large nutcrackers

    • Life-size Nativity scene

    • 10-foot tall ornaments

    • North Carolina’s tallest Christmas tree (70 feet!)

  • Details: The Christmas Drive runs December 18-27 (including Christmas Day), 5-8 PM each night. Visitors will enter the campus at the University Parkway entrance.

Thursday, December 14

  • Gingerbread Contest - Compete to make the best gingerbread dog house at Bull City Ciderworks. Brought to you by All Pets Considered. 6 PM

  • Vienna Light Orchestra - Listen to your favorite holiday songs performed by world-class musicians and vocalists at the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. 7 PM

  • Gingerbread Workshop - Make three illuminated gingerbread houses at this adults-only event at Pinspiration. 6 PM

Friday, December 15

  • Charcuterie Workshop - Learn how to make a holiday dessert board at Fiber Space. 7 PM

  • Christmas at Motown - Enjoy a dinner show with soulful Motown music performances at the Centennial Station Art Center. Available through Sunday.

  • Movie Night - Enjoy an outdoor screening of Elf at Summerfield Farms. Buddy the Elf will make a special appearance! 6 PM

  • Elf in Concert - Watch the beloved holiday movie with a live performance of its score at the Steven Tanger Center. 7:30 PM

  • Candle Party - Create your own candle and enjoy a cocktail or mocktail at Marjae’s Wine Bar. 6 PM

Saturday, December 16

  • Running of the Balls - Run or walk beneath a canopy of colorful Christmas balls in the Sunset Hills Neighborhood. The event benefits Second Harvest Food Bank. 6 PM

  • Brewmaster Holiday Tour - Tour Steel Hands Brewing, receive a brewmaster’s flight, sip from the tank, and more. 2 PM

  • DIY Workshop - Paint a mug and an ornament at Pinspiration’s Family Funday. 12-6 PM

  • Cookie Decorating - Bring your kids to Summerfield Farms to decorate cookies and enjoy storytime with Mrs. Claus. 3 PM

  • Polar Express - Enjoy a free screening of this classic Christmas movie while sipping on hot chocolate at Jamestown Public Library. Wearing pajamas is encouraged! 10:15 AM

  • Winter WonderPark - High Point City Lake Park glows with festive holiday lights and decorations - enjoy train and carousel rides, mini golf, and more. Also available Sunday.

  • Grinch-mas Party - Come dressed in your Ginchiest attire to Boxcar Bar + Arcade for themed cocktails, games, and free pictures with Santa. 8 PM - 1 AM

Sunday, December 17

  • Holiday Movie Trivia - Summerfield Farms hosts its first trivia night! Prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. 3-4 PM

  • Charcuterie Workshop - Join Wanderlust Boards for a holiday workshop at Bull City Ciderworks. A draft cider, beer, house wine, or N/A beverage is included in the ticket price. 12 PM

Other News

  • Gameday: Two local HBCUs will perform at the Carolina Panthers vs. the Atlanta Falcons game on December 17. WSSU’s cheerleaders - known as the Powerhouse - will join the TopCats for end zone performances, and NC A&T’s marching band will perform during halftime.

  • New Study: YCWA High Point recently released a report on racial disparities in High Point, covering topics such as income + wealth, food access, and discrimination. The report also included recommendations based on the report’s findings.

  • Aggie Pride: During her summer internship, NC A&T student Mya Harris designed an A&T-inspired collection of clothes for Urban Outfitters. The collection was released this fall, featuring a flannel shirt, a bomber jacket, and more.

  • New Restaurant: In the mood for Nashville hot chicken? Timmy’s Hot Chicken is opening Friday, December 15 at 1040 W Gate City Boulevard. This will be the restaurant’s second location in the Triad.

  • Parks: Summerfield will receive $500,000 for the development of Bandera Farms Park from the NC Division of Parks and Recreation. According to town officials, the park will play a critical role in the Piedmont Greenway.

  • New Shop: Jeremiah’s Italian Ice recently opened on 1651 New Garden Road in Greensboro. Jeremiah’s serves over 40 different Italian Ice flavors and soft serve ice cream.

  • Closures: Miss Johnnie Mae’s has closed its physical location in Stock + Grain Assembly and will be doing food truck pop-ups. Oh Goodness Bakery will close at the end of December.

  • Coming Soon: A new bar, Muddle, will serve handcrafted specialty cocktails at 607 B South Elm Street. No details about its opening date have been released.

  • Date Night - Snuggle up with that special someone at Boxcar Bar + Arcade on December 18. Enjoy a s’mores bar, delicious drinks, and a guided couples’ craft.

  • Ugly Sweater Goat Yoga - Summerfield Farms will host its popular yoga class with miniature goats on December 21. Festive attire encouraged!

  • Grand Opening - Dive Bar opens its new location in High Point on December 27. The bar will feature arcade games, claw machines, billiards, darts, and more.
