Camille’s Closet & Theo’s Threads

Prom season is on the horizon, and Camille’s Closet and Theo’s Threads are making sure that every student can attend. Keep reading to find out how you can get involved.

What: Camille’s Closet and Theo’s Threads are youth-led programs that are a part of the Greensboro Youth Council. The programs are accepting donations of new or gently used prom clothing, shoes, and accessories now through March 1.

Why: In April, middle school and high school students will be able to “shop” for free! The programs make it possible for students who normally couldn’t afford prom clothing to attend their school’s event.

Get Involved: You can view and purchase items from the programs’ Amazon wishlist or drop off new and gently worn prom wear, shoes, and accessories at any of the locations listed below:

Events

Thursday, February 15

  • Musical - The award-winning musical, Hadestown, is playing at the Steven Tanger Center. Available through Sunday.

  • New Exhibition - Attend the opening reception of “For the Love of Art” on Creative Aging Network’s campus, featuring art made by network participants. 5-7 PM

  • Body Boost - Fit4mom Piedmont leads a moms-only HIIT workout at Bull City Ciderworks. The class meets every Thursday. 6:30 PM

Friday, February 16

  • Comedian - Mary Mack from the show Solar Opposites performs at The Idiot Box. 8 PM

Saturday, February 17

  • Grand Opening - CycleBar Greensboro officially opens today! Enjoy free classes, pop-ups, raffles, deals, and more. Also available Sunday.

  • Mardi Gras - Celebrate with live music, a car show, and cookouts at Steel Hands Brewing. 12-11 PM

  • Rowing Class - Learn the fundamentals of rowing at Summerfield Farms. 10 AM

  • Tea for Two - Come to Historic Park to learn about the importance of tea to the American colonies and why it was boycotted during the Revolutionary War. 10 AM

  • Anti-Valentines Supper Club - Spring Garden Bakery hosts a supper club, featuring a three-course vegetarian secret menu. 7 PM

  • The Lady & The Mic - Experience spoken word poetry, live music, and a Black history and community forum at the Greensboro Cultural Center. 3:30-5:30 PM

  • Bourbon & Blooms - Enjoy a three-pour bourbon tasting while participating in a floral arrangement workshop at 913 Whiskey Bar. 2 PM

  • Comedy Show - From the 2 Guys Named Chris Show comes an evening full of laughs at the Carolina Theatre. 7:30 PM

Sunday, February 18

  • Cocktail Class - Learn about vodka cocktails and enjoy light snacks from the kitchen at GIA. 3:30 PM

  • Wine & Design - Grab brunch at Steel Hands Brewing and create a painting during this artist-led paint session. 11:30 AM

  • Free Workout - Join ISI Elite Training at The Abbey Taphouse for a free workout session. All fitness levels welcome. 11 AM

  • Dance Festival - The Carolina Theatre presents Hope Fest 4 Hunger, a multicultural dance festival benefitting nonprofits A Simple Gesture and Greensboro Urban Ministry. 2 PM

  • Sunday Funnies - Sunday afternoons are better with laughter! The Idiot Box Comedy Club lightens the mood with an improv comedy show. 11:30 AM

  • Arts: The A’eo Fine Art Gallery is moving from the island of Maui to downtown Greensboro. The gallery will feature a diverse selection of paintings, sculptures, and jewelry.


  • Local Legend: Did you hear the banjo and viola in “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé’s new single? That’s Greensboro songwriter and musician, Rhiannon Giddens.


  • New Restaurant: The grand opening of MamaPut Afrikana Restaurant is February 17. The restaurant will serve authentic Nigerian food like Jollof rice and Egusi soup.

  • Housing: The Greensboro City Planning Department released an infographic that visualizes Greensboro’s growth and development in 2023. One key finding: over 5,000 potential housing units were approved last year.

  • University: High Point University is naming its new School of Entrepreneurship after David Congdon, who made an 8-figure donation to the University. When the school opens in 2025, it will be one of only two schools of entrepreneurship in North Carolina.

  • Rebranding: Bart Ortiz, Sr. - the owner of Tex & Shirley’s Pancake House in High Point - is retiring. His restaurant will become a Cagney’s Kitchen. Note: the Tex & Shirley’s Greensboro location will continue operating as normal.

  • Sports: The Atlantic Coast Conference recently released its future tournament schedule: Greensboro will host the tournament in 2027 and 2029.


  • Black History: It’s been 64 years since the students from High Point’s William Penn High School began a sit-in at the South Main Street Woolworth’s Department store lunch counter.

  • Wine Tasting - Lewis & Elm continues its wine education series, covering wines made from the Petite Sirah grape on February 20.

  • Charcuterie Workshop - Learn how to create a charcuterie board with GringoNinja at Joymongers Brewing Co. on February 20.

  • Pints & Pages - SouthEnd Brewing Co’s monthly book club meets on February 21. This month’s book is Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood.

  • Celebrating Black Arts - Experience the world of Black arts at the Greensboro Cultural Center on February 23.

  • Brass Concert - The North Carolina Brass Band presents “Brass Around the World” at the UNCG Recital Hall on March 8 and Salem College on March 9.*
