Baseball is Back

Baseball season is less than a month away! The Greensboro Grasshoppers’ first game takes place on April 5 at First National Bank Field.

Guilford County School Day Game | April 17 and May 1 | Guilford County school students are invited to watch the Hoppers play in early games (11 AM).

Bark in the Park | April 21, June 5, and July 9 | Purchase a Pooch Pass to bring your furry friend to the ball game!

Star Wars Night | May 4 | Wear your Star Wars-themed clothing! Players will wear specialty Star Wars jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the Special Olympics of Guilford County.

Military Appreciation Night | May 25 | Military members, veterans, and their families are honored at this game. Players will wear specialty Military Appreciation Night jerseys that will be auctioned off.

BackPack Beginning's Bust the Bus Fundraiser | June 6 | Bring canned goods to help BackPack Beginnings fill up a bus!

Thursday, March 7

  • Musical - Watch the award-winning musical sensation, SIX, at the Steven Tanger Center. Runs through Friday.

  • Basketball - The Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament takes place at Greensboro Coliseum. Games through Sunday.

  • Goat Yoga - It’s back! Join Summerfield Farms for a yoga class featuring miniature goats. 6 PM

Friday, March 8

  • Brass Concert - The North Carolina Brass Band presents “Brass Around the World” at the UNCG Recital Hall. 7:30 PM*

Saturday, March 9

  • Barista 101 - Learn and practice the basics of coffee creation for home espresso at Green Joe’s Coffee Co. 9:30 AM

  • Fun Run/5K - Run in the Kilometers Over Cancer Tournament Trot at Greensboro Coliseum! A portion of all event proceeds will benefit Earlier.org. 8:30 AM

  • Cocktail Class - Learn how to craft whiskey cocktails at Summerfield Farms. 3 PM

  • Shrek Fest - “What are you doing in my swamp?!” Boxcar Bar + Arcade hosts a Shrek-themed party - come dressed as your favorite character! 8 PM - 12 AM

  • 5K Race - Kick off your lucky streak with the Running of the Leprechauns 5K at Oden Brewing Company. 10 AM

  • Youth Art Class - Students ages 10-17 create prints using gelatin plates at The Art Gallery at Congdon Yards. 10 AM

  • 2nd Saturday - Head to State Street for an Easter egg hunt (one for kids and one for adults) and special deals at businesses. 12 - 6 PM

     

Sunday, March 10

  • Cooking Class - Learn the art of making pasta and enjoy a complimentary wine pairing at GIA. 4 PM

  • Silent Book Club - Cozy up with a good book in the company of fellow readers at Scuppernong Books. There are designated times for mingling, reading, and discussing. 12-1:30 PM

Other News

  • Election: The primary election results from March 5 are available for the public to view. Keep in mind that results are unofficial until certified on March 15.

  • Volunteer: The Greensboro Women's Resource Center is experiencing an increase in demand for its services and needs more volunteer resource counselors. The center helps connect women to the network of services available in Greensboro.

  • Government: On March 5, the City of Greensboro announced City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba resigned, effective immediately. Jaiyeoba resigned a day after the city announced it would appeal a court ruling to release body camera footage of a domestic incident he was involved in last year. According to a report released in December, he and two of his family members were victims of assault.

  • Opening: Harvest Boards & Bowls, a health-conscious restaurant in High Point, opened on March 2. The restaurant partners with Growing High Point, a non-profit dedicated to transforming under-resourced neighborhoods.

  • Renovation: The Guilford County Government Plaza will be under construction until summer 2025. The project includes repairing structural elements of the plaza parking deck and making way for new landscaping and a new waterproofing system.

  • Entertainment: The City of Greensboro awarded Oak View Group the private management and booking services contracts for Greensboro Coliseum and the Steven Tanger Center. The contracts mean that Oak View Group will manage the daily operations and booking services for these venues.

  • Save the Date: The Beach Boys bring their “Endless Summer Gold” tour to the Steven Tanger Center on June 19. Tickets go on sale March 8 at 10 AM.

Backstory: Owner Davor is from Eastern Europe, where the inspiration for much of the menu comes from.

The Menu: Coffee and expresso drinks using beans from local roaster Fortuna Coffee; a variety of delicious sweet crepes with fillings like Eurocream spread (think Nutella), rosehip jam, and more; and ready-to-eat pastries like baklava and macaroons.

  • Spotlight Circus - Enjoy a free event with circus and dance performances, workshops, and activities for the whole family on the Downtown Greenway! The Spotlight Circus takes place March 16, 23, and 30.
